Backland mews redevelopment
This backland site accommodates a detached warehouse structure and yard.
The development looks to demolish the existing commercial building, to allow the erection of a two-storey mews development comprising 5 self-contained dwellings, together with associated landscaping.
Architecturally, the mews acknowledges its backland setting and has been designed to appear subordinate in comparison to its neighbours.
The mews provides a contemporary design however continuity with the local context is provided through use of traditional vernacular materials and techniques, such as brickwork.
The mews houses provide a good degree of separation with the rear of the existing terrace of houses along Albert Avenue, at some 20 metres. This accords with the general distances between the existing terraces of houses and the pattern of density in the immediate vicinity.
