Residential redevelopment of redundant council offices
The Site comprises the former One Stop Shop (Use Class E) within the ownership of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. The development demolishes the existing vacant building on the Site, to allow the erection of a part 3, part 4 storey building comprising 9, GLA funded, social rent dwellings (1x1b, 7x 4b and 1 x 6b). The ground floor is composed of 3 maisonettes and one wheelchair accessible unit. Each maisonette unit at ground floor level has a self-contained entrance and internal stair up to a part first floor level of accommodation. Access is also provided at ground floor level to the 3 upper maisonette units which are located over part first and second floor levels. A further communal access is provided towards the junction of Rushmead and Florida Street, providing access to 2 self-contained flats over first, second and a part third floor level.
The proposals form an integral part of the Applicant’s response to address the rise in acute housing need as a result of the borough experiencing the fastest population growth in the country in recent years. The development is to be part funded by application to the GLA’s 2021-26 Affordable Housing Programme.
