Construction of new SEN all-through school in the North-East
NTA Planning was instructed to manage pre-application and planning application stages for the delivery of a new Special Educational Needs (SEN) all-through school in the north-east. River Tees Academy Grangetown will be a highly specialised Special Education Needs School in Grangetown,, Middlesbrough.
The school will take in students ranging in age from 5-18 year olds across Four Tees Valley Local Authorities (Redcar and Cleveland, Middlesbrough, Stockton-on-Tees and Darlington) and is unique in that it will have a catchment area which extends across the entire county, making it a vital part of the SEN provision for the north-east of England.
Additionally, the school will be Net-Zero Carbon in operation, whilst also delivering uplifts in both Urban Greening Factor and Biodiversity Net Gain.
After a previous application for a similar development failed to secure planning permission, NTA Planning was delighted to oversee a positive planning application stage for the DFE, client and end users. After submitting a planning application in January 2024, a decision was made under delegated powers in March 2024, with minimal planning conditions. Construction is due to commence shortly.
