Monk’s Walk School, Hertfordshire
Innovative project to provide new two storey school building and tennis courts within a green belt location.
Under the Department for Education Priority School Building Programme 2, this project involved the demolition of an existing single storey school building and construction of a new two storey school block in the green belt.
Whilst acknowledging the conflict with planning policy in erecting such a structure in the green belt, NT+A engaged in constructive pre-application discussions with the local planning authority and provided Very Special Circumstances to convince the planners to approve this development.
Together with Spatial Initiative and JM Architects, NT+A successfully secured planning permission for this new school block under delegated powers in early 2019.
