Construction of a new mulit-storey car park on a hospital car park
NTA Planning was instructed to manage the delivery of a new multi-storey car park (MSCP) for the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan. Due to the need to deliver Covid-19 related extension at the main hospital site, the issue of traffic and parking had become progressively worse in and around the hospital site.
The site of the MSCP is an existing surface car park, a short distance south of the hospital site, used by both staff and the public. It is in the heart of a conservation area and surrounded by residential development.
This development required NTA Planning (and the design team to address various issues, including highways, daylight/sunlight, drainage, BNG and design/heritage.
Bolstered by a positive public consultation exercise, a planning application was submitted in June 2024, with a decision made under delegated powers in September 2024, with construction expected to commence later in 2024.
