Part three, part four storey extension to existing hospital creating new entrance and two floors of new wards, providing 40-bed capacity.
Warwick Hospital is a historic hospital site located to the north of Warwick Town Centre. As is often the case with hospital sites, the site supported several small ad-hoc and temporary developments which was only exacerbated by the increased needs of the hospital during the Covid-19 pandemic. Temporary buildings have become permanent and permanent developments were failing the modern needs of the hospital.
NTA managed the pre-application and planning application process for the demolition of several buildings on site and construction of a part-three, part-four storey extension to the hospital, delivering a new entrance and two levels of new wards with a 40-bed capacity. The development will be net zero carbon, will enhance drainage and landscaping on the site, will deliver an uplift in tree planting and biodiversity net gain. This high quality brick solution will see a vast improvement in the quality of Warwick Hospital, both internally and externally.
This development, comprising 4,163sqm of new hospital floorspace is Phase 1 of the hospital’s Masterplan proposals and will unlock several key sites for future development.
NTA, along with a design team of Day Architectural, Squareyard, Clancy Consulting, TEP, Mode Transport worked collaboratively with the Hospital Trust and Warwick District Council over a 6 month period to realise this ambitious project within a very strict deadline. Planning permission was granted in just over 8 weeks under delegated powers.
Works are due to commence in Summer 2023 and complete in mid 2024.
