Redevelopment of vacant offices, creating 24 new homes
The Site comprises a part one, part two, and part three storey building in a U-shaped arrangement, with inward facing aspect and associated courtyard car parking. The building is currently vacant but was last in use as offices (Use Class E). The Site is located off the western side of Brixton Hill, access is taken via a single carriage road
The development demolishes the existing building, to allow the erection of a part 2 – part 5 storey building comprising 24 self-contained dwellings. The overall dwelling mix comprises 8 x 1 bed flats, 8 x 2 bed flats, 4 x 3 bed flats and 4 x 4 bed townhouses, totalling 24 units.
The initial application was met with rejection by the council, listing an astounding 16 reasons for refusal. However, we believed in the potential of this project and were determined to turn the tide in our favour. We submitted an appeal, via Public Inquiry. Despite being on a limited budget, and the appellant making the bold decision not to engage a barrister, instead, the responsibility of representing the case and handling barrister duties fell upon the shoulders of the NTA team and the appellant.
The Inspector wholeheartedly agreed with our points of contention, and with a resounding validation of our vision, the council’s initial 16 reasons for refusal were overturned, culminating in the long-awaited and well-deserved grant of planning permission.
