Aboyne Lodge School, St. Albans

Major refurbishment of Grade II listed primary school in conservation area setting.

This site comprises Aboyne Lodge School, a 1 Form of Entry primary school located in the heart of St. Albans in Hertfordshire. The school is a fine, early example of post-war modular and prefabricated construction.

Working with JM Architects, Spatial Initiative Ltd and the Dept for Education, NT+A were instructed to seek planning permission and listed building consent for the overhaul and major refurbishment of the school. This would bring the development up to modern teaching standards, while also remaining respectful of the building’s listed status.

This project involved significant pre-application engagement with the School, local community, local planning authority and Historic England. This advice all culminated with planning permission and listed building consent in June 2019. Works are going to commence in late 2019.
